From Bangladesh to Philadelphia
Nina was eleven when she witnessed the birth of Bangladesh. Three million people gave their lives so she could live.
She came to America at twenty-one with nothing but determination, earned a Ph.D. in Chemistry, and built a life of purpose in Philadelphia.
A chemist and molecular biologist who built something real
Nina earned her Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania and completed a medical fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University. As a small business owner, she created good jobs and made decisions that strengthened her community.
Fighting for women and communities left behind
Nina is the former President of both the Philadelphia and Pennsylvania chapters of the National Organization for Women (NOW) and has led efforts to advance pay equity, end workplace harassment, and create opportunity for young people and communities of color across Philadelphia.
Deputy Mayor who brought government to the people
Nina served as Deputy Mayor for Public Engagement under Mayor Kenney, launching the Office of Public Engagement to close the distance between city government and those it serves. She worked with mayors and governors to build real change.

Nina has built a career defined by firsts and by results. She was the first woman of color in Pennsylvania history to win a statewide Democratic nomination. In 2020, she earned more votes across Pennsylvania than Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton. These numbers tell the story of a movement that crosses lines and brings people together.
